Detailed description

Project summary

The project is included in the state of the natural gas, a significant amount of clean mechanical energy is continuously losing by not using the power of the energy detention in the lamination process of the natural gas between:

- wells with high pressure over the maximum permissible pressure in the collectors of the underground storage fields;
- between pressure of the gas storage in reservoirs and the applied gas pressure into the transmission pipelines;
- the international import of the gas pressure and the transmission in the national system of pipelines;
- the gas pressure before the regulating and measuring stations, and the gas pressure delivered in the distribution system or directly to large consumers.

Where there is a gas flow, a system like turbo-generator (TG) can recover the power of the detention energy and to convert into electricity. In principle, any temperature or high pressure becomes a potential source of energy and through a TG system the mechanical energy can be recovered and converted to electrical energy.

The project aims to achieve an axially screw turbine coupled to an electric generator - electricity generated being over 250kW, to use in regional networks. TG is a profitable replacement system for pressure regulators and control valves.

The reduction of the energy intensity especially for Romania is an absolute priority and that technical solutions has also a strong ecological and environmental component which makes the project to be a necessity for the case study.

The purpose of the proposed activity is to design a system to recover the maximum amount of useful energy, process available, winding through a turbine, which allows direct coupling configuration with an electrical generator. Intends to use the prototype system in a location of the Romanian natural gas transportation.

Solution has not been studied in Romania and is not applied in any installation of Partner 3

The advantages of using such equipment are, besides the production of green electricity, the availability of natural gas to other consumers, the reduction of the amount of CO2 released into the environment and the posibility of CO2 sell and green bills.

General Objectives

The first objective of the project is to achieve and implement a procedure for transforming the screw compressor design to meet the technological constraints imposed by industrial experts. The objective will be achieved by achieving the following steps:

- developing an update set of design rules, based on currently used by industry experts for rotary screw;
- applying an automatic procedure to optimize the design parameters based on performance requirements and constraints on flow stability;
- derivation of an aproximative model;
- analysis of the heating gas entering in the screw turbine. The problem is traced to the net power provided by the turbine.

The second objective of the project is to achieve a screw turbine configuration. It intends to install and use the prototype in a location of the romanian gas transportation system.

Activities and responsibilities associated with each participant

Thermodynamic analysis of relaxation process, combined with other processes that allow the maximization of energy production, all problems will be addressed to Partner 2 and the Coordinator CO.
Geometric solution which meets the requirements of stability and flow of performance considered to be the most effective, optimization will be outcome. Functional design solution for the energy recovery system gas and pilot plant installation, and all quality tests, it is up to Coordinator CO.
Partner 3 will conduct development work in the (SRM) location with the axialy screw turbine coupled with the electric generator which could be the first company in Romania of such facilities. We exploit the simple concept from the mechanical point of view, excellent reliability in operation, functioning in the automatic mode with reduced personnel.
Partner 4 will analyze and set up an electric generator coupled to the turbine shaft.
