4.6 Combustion Laboratory

Title: Modernization and development of the materail base for research studies in the field of gas turbine engines combustion efficiency

Acronim: TURBOCOMB

Contract: PN II Capacities no. 63 / September 2007

Financing: state budget

Objective:

The upgrading of INCDT – COMOTI’s combustion research infrastructure as well as of the facilities assisting this infrastructure (the INCAS air blower station);

The upgrading of the research and experimentation facilities and of the measurement equipment required in order to meet, in the highest degree, the requirements of the european FP7 research programs.

The improvement, through the newly developed metods and research equipment, of the research capability in the field of combustion and biomass gasification (clean energies).

Objectives achivement:

During the project, work in the filed of design, execution, modernization and acquisition has been carried out, in the alotted budget and by attacting supplementary funding from INCDT COMOTI, in such a manner as to answer in good conditions to the requirements of the ongoing research programs, and with the goal of developing the research base in order to attract new, complex research contracts, financed both form national and European funding.

In general, there have been 4 major development directions:

Purchased equipment valorization

The achieved upgrading allows the successful continuation of the international program TEENI and opens perspectives for approaching field related top problems, both with national partners, that will be able to acquire new knowledge through collaboration with INCDT – COMOTI, and with international partners, that are, most of them, in the same situation as the national partners, as the equipment and the gained knowledge are available only to a few current FP7 COMOTI pratners, (Turbomeca / Franţa, DLR/ The German Aviation Institute, and 2-3 institutes in USA and Japan.

Servicies available as a result of the upgrading

The TURBOCOMB is a thermo-gas dynamic complex offering conditions for the study and the experimantation of liquid or solid fuel combustion, biomass or derivative fuel (bio-fuel) combustion, heat transfer, thermal resisting coating and aviation or industrial gas turbine micro-engines, operating on classic fuels, biomass, or derivative fuel (bio-fuel).

The laboratorul offers testing beds supplied with high temperature and high pressure air or exhaust gas, as well as high accuracy and spatial precision measurement possibilities for the thermal and gas dynamic parameters of interest in the study of gas turbines.
